Texture Paint Barn, Silo & Fence

I have always loved to draw and paint but I didn't really throw myself into it until after I had my first son.  I wanted to be a stay at home mom and at the same time be able to decorate the new home we had just purchased. I taught myself how to use power tools and began to build furniture which I would paint and sometimes sell.  What was once a hobby became a new part-time career which I feel so blessed to be able to do.

Instructions

Tip: Use a skinny stick to apply Textured Paint and then smooth it out with paint brush.

Barn:

  1. Sand the entire box so that the paint will adhere.
  2. Paint the entire box White Textured Paint. Allow to dry. When dry, paint Engine Red.
  3. Paint the 2 pieces of cardboard with White textured paint. Allow to dry. Paint cardboard Licorice
  4. Adults only, using the craft knife, cut an opening for the door by measuring up 3-3/4" and making a cut in the center 4" across, this will be the top of the door. Repeat this same step at the bottom of the box making sure it is in the exact same position as the top cut. To make the center cut so that you have 2 opening doors, measure in 2" from the end of the top and bottom cuts and make a vertical cut with the craft knife. Bend door back to open.
  5. For the window at the top of barn, cut out a 2-1/4" x 2-1/4" square using the craft knife ( adults only).
  6. Using scissors, cut the skinny sticks to fit around window of barn and around the barn door. To make "X" on the two barn doors, measure doors from one corner to the other and cut one long skinny stick to fit. Cut two more smaller ones to fit going in the opposite directions. Measure another small one to go across the bottom. Paint all skinny sticks Wicker White. Allow to dry and then glue into place. An adult may want to glue with hot glue to make sure sticks stay in place.
  7. For the roof, glue cardboard pieces into place and then paint the top part of box Licorice.
  8. Using the posterboard scraps or anything stiffer than paper, cut a piece to fit into the bottom of the farm floor. Glue pieces of raffia to posterboard and then insert into barn. For the straw in the window, cut a piece of posterboard that will fit across the bottom of window. Glue raffia to it and the glue it to the inside of window.

Silo:

  1. Sand the chip can so that the textured paint will adhere to can.
  2. Glue the clay saucer to the can.
  3. Paint the chip can with the Dove Gray. Allow to dry. Apply the White Textured Paint all over the can using the helpful tip above. Apply the White textured paint to the top of silo. Allow to dry.
  4. When dry, paint all White Texture Painted areas Dove Gray.
  5. Dip the brush into the Licorice paint and then remove all excess paint. Apply to the sides of the silo on the gray textured paint to make it look aged. Helpful Tip: Apply the textured paint with skinny stick and the smooth out with brush.

Fence:

  1. Cut 24 - 2" pieces of popsicle sticks and 16 - 3-3/4" pieces of pop sicle sticks with scissors. Paint all Wicker White allow to dry.
  2. Lay down 3 short pieces vertically. Glue 2 longer pieces in between horizonally at the top and the repeat with 2 more at the bottom to form a fence. Take 3 more short pieces and glue them on top of the ends of the long pieces so that the long pieces are sandwiched in between the two short pieces. Repeat this 3 more times. Take 2 of the fence pieces and glue them at the ends to form a corner.
  3. Using the brush, paint on a little White textured paint on to the already painted fence.
