What types of tools should I have on hand ready to decoupage?
When creating a decoupage project, it is best to have on hand the following tools and/or supplies: scissors or a craft knife for trimming excess paper or fabric, Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Brush set for applying the decoupage finishes and a Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Brayer for smoothing the decoupaged paper or fabric.
How many formulas of Martha Stewart Crafts ® Photo Transfer mediums are there?
There are two formulas of Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Photo Transfer medium, one for dark surfaces and one for light / clear surfaces.
How do I know which photo transfer medium to use on what type of surface?
Both Martha Stewart Crafts Photo Transfer Mediums will work on all surfaces.
The Martha Stewart Crafts Photo Transfer Medium for Light/Clear Surfaces is best used on clear or white surfaces, such as glass and ceramic and will yield a transparent result. The Martha Stewart Crafts Photo Transfer for Dark surfaces will prevent the color of the surface from interfering with your photo.
What tools are best used when creating a photo transfer?
You will need to have waxed paper, Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Brush set, a photo copy of your favorite photo, small sponge and scissors.
How do I create a photo transfer?
Both Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Photo Transfer Mediums can be applied using one of these two techniques. The Decal Method is easier when including text and better suited for 3D surfaces, whereas the Direct Transfer Method is permanent and better for flat surfaces.

Decal Method: To create a photo transfer decal, place a photo copy of your favorite photo on a sheet of waxed paper photo side up. Apply a generous amount of Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Photo Transfer Medium to the front of the photo copy as smoothly as you can and allow to dry for 24 hours. Flip the photo transfer over and begin the process of removing the layers of paper by moistening the back and lightly rubbing over the backside of the photo copy with a small sponge. Continue removing paper until you no longer see white paper fibers. Allow to dry. When dry, if necessary, repeat last step if white paper fibers are still visible.

Direct Transfer Method: To create a photo transfer directly onto your project surface, place a photo copy of your favorite photo on a sheet of waxed paper photo side up. Apply a generous amount of Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Photo Transfer Medium to the front of the photo copy as smoothly as you can. Carefully flip the treated photo copy over so that the medium is now downwards. Position the prepared photo copy on your project surface where desired. Press lightly and smooth in place. Place project on a flat surface and allow to set for 24 hours. You are now ready to begin the process of removing the layers of paper by moistening the back with water and lightly rubbing over the backside of the photo copy with a small sponge. Continue removing paper until you no longer see white paper fibers. Allow to dry. When dry, if necessary, repeat last step if white paper fibers are still visible.

Can my photo transfer project be washed?
Yes, all projects can be hand washed.
Hard surface items can be lightly washed with a dampened paper towel using mild soap and water. Fabric project surfaces can be hand washed and line dried.
What other helpful hints are there when creating a Martha Stewart Photo Transfer project?
When using the Direct Transfer method with an image that contains text, be sure to flip the text to mirror it first before applying the Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Photo Transfer Medium.
For ease of use, try to keep your photo transfer designs to a smaller shape and size. The larger your design image the harder it will be to create.
