Instructions

  1. Glue a few rows of rope around the base of the metal bucket. Place the Styrofoam ball in the bucket and cover with moss.
  2. Make 3 large (finished 5”x5”) and 2 small (finished 3”x3”) fabric pinwheels. Begin with the large ones. Cut two 6” x 6” pieces of fabrics from two different prints. Using fabric Mod Podge as a glue, attach the two pieces together and allow to dry for 3 hours. Make sure you glue them wrong sides together. Do this 3 times with different prints for the 3 large ones. Then make the small ones using 4”x4” fabric squares.
  3. Once dry, trim the 3 large fabric squares to 5”x5” and the 2 smaller ones to 3”x3”. Cut a diagonal slash at each corner. Stop 1” before the center. Using Mod Melt as a glue, attach each left corner to the center. This will form your pinwheel shape.
  4. Glue the back of the pinwheel to the top of a wooden dowel and glue a felt circle over the top of the dowel for a decorative look.
  5. Create Mod Melt embellishments by heating a Mod Melt stick in a Mod Melter or high temp glue gun, fill a mold with the Mod Melt, allow to cool, remove from the mold. Use detail scissors to trim away an excess melt from around the design. We used a large heart from the Trinkets Mold with a red Mod Melt stick and 3 sand dollars from the Sea Life mold with the Milk Glass Sticks for this design.
  6. Glue the Mod Melt Embellishments into the center of each pinwheel. Reserved red heart for the USA pic.
  7. Trace the USA pic onto the back of the scrapbook paper. Apply Mod Podge matte to the front of the USA and to the back of the paper. Position the paper onto the USA and smooth the paper with your fingers to remove any air bubbles. Allow to dry. Glue the extra heart to the USA where you live. Outline the edge of the USA with Navy Blue paint.
  8. Position the pinwheels and USA pic into the arrangement by pressing into the Styrofoam ball.
  • PROJECT TIP: Mix it up for different seasons. We used patriotic fabrics for this design but you can use any fabric prints.
