Q: How should I prepare my surface before I apply Rub-On Patterns?
Wood – Sand smooth with fine grit sandpaper, wipe away sawdust. Tin – Wash with soap and water, wipe with white vinegar dampened cloth, rinse well and dry. Terra Cotta – Wipe clean, seal pot interior with clear acrylic spray before potting plant. Canvas – Wipe primed canvas clean, if unprimed, apply two coats of gesso. Paper Mache – Wipe clean with damp cloth. Plaster – Wipe clean with damp cloth. Plastic – Wash with soap and water and allow to dry. Once surface is prepared, basecoat in color of choice and allow to thoroughly dry. If desired, create a patterned background such as sponging, striping, slip slap, flyspecking, etc. before transferring design patterns.
