"The Big Book of Mod Podge" and DIY Mod Podge Dimensional Magic!

"The Big Book of Mod Podge" and DIY Mod Podge Dimensional Magic!

Have you heard the good news?  Have you seen it?

Newly released and hot off the press, "The Big Book of Mod Podge" is now available in your favorite book stores and on Amazon.com!  This publication, authored by Plaid and published by Lark, is a follow-up publication to "Mod Podge Rocks!" by Amy Anderson and it features over 90 innovative decoupage projects ALL made easy with simple to follow instructions!

With over 200 pages of inspiration, color photography, and step-by-step detailed instructions, ANYONE can learn how to decoupage using Mod Podge in no time at all!

"The Big Book of Mod Podge" features the creative work of 23 talented contributing designers covering a wide expanse of crafting themes, everything from DIY home decor, fashion, holiday celebrations, and crafting for the kids to the ever popular growing trend of creating mixed media art and more!

Everyone from the novice to experienced crafter will learn about Mod Podge and the variety of formulas available, the many surfaces to be decoupaged and how to prepare them, what the best tools to use are and how to care for them, and there's even a little history about Mod Podge and its inventor, Jan Wetstone!

Readers will also LOVE the section written about how to explore many creative options with endless combinations of surfaces, papers, fabrics, styles, colors and techniques!

Personally, I am thrilled to share with you this publication because as one of the contributing designers as well as the "content curator" for the book, I have logged many working hours to bring you this fabulous collaborative instructional book.  It's a book that contains educational information with project inspiration through beautiful photography!  Pick up a copy for yourself today, I promise no craft studio should be without a copy!

Below you will see a project I had created for the book; a special key holder to be hung near a doorway to organize sets of family keys.

And here is a pic of the book layout.  You can see beautiful project photography on the left.  The right side features a complete supply list and clearly written instructions including step-by-step photography so you can follow along without any questions.

So today, I want to share with you an amazing member of the Mod Podge product family .... Mod Podge Dimensional Magic!  I used this product on a couple projects within the book.  Let's take a look at the supplies needed to create a quick magnet or push pin project ......

  • Two bottle caps
  • Mod Podge Matte
  • FolkArt Multi-Surface Paint - Teal
  • Mod Podge Dimensional Magic - Clear
  • Scraps of decorative printed paper (scrapbook paper is perfect!)
  • Printed inspirational words
  • Miscellaneous Supplies:  Brush Basin or container for water, Scissors, 3/4" Flat Brush, Foam Plate for palette, Paper Towels, Magnet or Push Pin. Strong bonding adhesive, Tiny flat back gems (opt.)

Prepare the paper inserts by cutting a 1" circle (or diameter of your bottle cap) along with any layers of designs you want to incorporate in your project.  My chosen papers were small polka dots that matched color combinations of the printed butterfly paper.

Next, I painted the bottle cap with FolkArt Multi-Surface Teal as it matched my chosen scrapbook papers.  I then allowed the paint to thoroughly dry.

Decoupaging the paper layers was my next step.  I brushed Mod Podge Matte onto the surface (inside the bottle cap) as well as on the back of the paper.

I then added the paper circle to the bottle cap, smoothed it in place and brushed a coat of Mod Podge over the paper once it was smoothed in place.

I then continued with the additional layers ..... butterflies and inspirational words ending with a topcoat of Mod Podge Matte.  I then allowed the decoupaged bottle cap to thoroughly dry.

Once the Mod Podged surface was dry, I brushed a little Teal over the white paper edges of the inspirational words so they would blend with the butterfly collage.  I also chose to add a few tiny flat back crystal gems to my project using Mod Podge to adhere them.

The magic happens next!  Mod Podge Dimensional Magic was applied to the well of the bottle cap over the dried and tinted paper collage directly from the writer tip nozzle!

Look close at the following photo and you will see that Mod Podge Dimensional Magic when wet is cloudy as shown on the right side.  However, don't worry!  I promise that it will dry to a clear epoxy-like accent.

And here are my completed Mod Podge Dimensional Magic accented bottle caps!  Aren't they pretty cool?  Only thing left to do is glue either a magnet disc or a push pin to the back of my bottle cap making them ready for use!

And here is a teaser photo of yet another project (incorporating Mod Podge Dimensional Magic) from "The Big Book of Mod Podge."   NO crafting studio should be without a copy of this educational and inspirational "decoupage made easy" book!
