DIY Snowed-In Survival Kit

DIY Snowed-In Survival Kit

It's official. Juno has made her grand entrance into the upper right corner of the map. I've been checking in on all my friends up north and everyone seems to have one thing on their mind: what to do when the kiddos when cabin fever starts kicking in. Well, I can't do much from Georgia, but I can offer up some crafty solutions to keep kids busy and entertained once the snow has lost its charm. I've put together the perfect
snowed-in survival guide. With minimal steps and supplies you likely already have in your cabinets and craft closets, these DIYs will provide hours of warm cozy fun.

The first thing I do on a winter morning is put a pot of water on the stove for hot tea.
DIY Tissue Paper Watercolor Mug via I Spy DIY makes this ritual even more wonderful. All you need is colorful tissue paper and Mod Podge and you've got yourself one crafty cupboard! Don't worry if you don't have a blank canvas - any mug will do! Either cover over preexisting patterns or add to them. I have a dancing bear mug that I'd love to see in a tutu :)

Make s'mores from the toasty comfort of your living room with DIY Marshmallow Roasting Sticks via Green Owl Crafts. This one's great because every member of the family can make their own. Personalize with names or have fun with original designs. Any wood-friendly paint will work.

And if you don't have a fireplace, make your own! Fun Faux DIY Cardboard Logs via Martha Stewart bring warmth to any room of the house and create the perfect setting for story telling. Use FolkArt® Home Decor Chalk to make realistic logs that look like you've spent all day chopping wood.

And no storytime is complete without shadow puppets! Whether you're operating in the dark or you're lucky enough to have power, kids will have a blast telling tales of squirrels eating lions and frogs chasing bears with Printable Shadow Puppets via Confetti Sunshine.

Use FolkArt® Handmade Charlotte Stencils to turn books into pieces of art with Decorative Stenciled Book Covers via The Scrap Shoppe Blog. Kids can also use stencils to jazz up their journals and notebooks so that they'll return to school twice as stylish(At top: DIY Stenciled Winter Art Notebooks via Heart Handmade UK)

It always happens. Every year somebody forgets to leave the the faucets dripping. That's why we always make sure to have plenty of extra water on hand come winter. DIY Water Jug Jewelry via PBS Parents is the perfect way to recycle your containters once you've finished them off. These are decorated with magic markers, but think how beautiful they would look painted or even bedazzled with glitter! (Remember, water jug = milk jug, so either will do.)

Warm wishes and happy crafting!
