Get Inspired By Painter Emily Jeffords

I recently had the privilege of spending some time with the increasingly popular painter Emily Jeffords at Maker’s Summit, a super inspirational one-day conference for the art, craft, and design world. The conference was a great opportunity to catch up with Emily on what she’s been up to and see some of her beautiful landscape work!

Not only are Emily’s paintings inspirational, but her creative life is too. She spends her days in White Whale Studios & Gallery with her two daughters, painting poetic landscapes with a pot of coffee on hand and music streaming. Emily also writes about art and design on her blog, Hello Beautiful, where you’ll find artist interviews, DIYs, product reviews, and more.

Any crafter who enjoys picking up paintbrushes and paints will want to study this collection of landscapes. Go ahead; try your hand at creating your own!

Grace In The Winds

“Grace In The Winds”—Emily’s interpretation of the sky and clouds—is full of movement and heart-warming color.

Golden Start

"Golden Start" was created from a rough sketch that outlined the motion of the sky. Emily then added gold leaf, followed by layers and layers of paint. She chose high-contrast colors to allow the gold to pop.

From the Valley

Another bright and uplifting landscape from Emily’s Painting a Day series, “From the Valley” is a family vacation applied to canvas! “The clouds and ground are lush and full of expressive brush strokes,” writes Emily, “while the green-blue sky is simple and smooth.”

Prettier In Pink

“Prettier In Pink”: the perfect title for such a soft, poetic painting, right? Love the mix of lavender, pink, and yellow.

Rain In Spain

“Rain In Spain” was also created as part of Emily’s Painting A Day series. If you’ve been itching to try your hand at painting on canvas, be sure to check out Emily’s blog Beautiful Hello for more about her creative process and fun DIYs.

Littlest Landscapes

I love these super cute tiny paintings. At just 4 x 4 x 1.5, they’re great on their own or as part of a larger collection. The horizontal stripes make for an unexpected, fresh touch against those abstract landscapes, too.

Spanish Moss & Peanut Field

This painting was commissioned by woman in Georgia who wanted Emily to capture her local scenery. Bright, cheery, warm, and fun!

December Is Far

Here’s a painting with a different perspective. I love how the grays, blues, and yellows sweep across the canvas, and then disappear behind the hill.

May Sings Brightly

Looking forward to spring? We all are. Emily’s captured May’s spectacular sunsets in a pink and lavender palette. I can almost smell the flowers!

New Day Dawning

This bright painting on burlap “tells the story of excited beginnings and of movement and change, a new day dawning, and a fresh outlook,” writes Emily. Burlap can be an approachable canvas for those who are just starting out. Pick out your choice of canvas and paint your story!
