Donna Dewberry is a self taught artist who grew up with a mother that encouraged her crafting. In fact Donna and her Mother used to sell various good on the side of the road. The One Stroke Painting method was developed when Donna had to fill an order for several thousand pieces of painted tin ware.

To date there are more than 6000 Certified One Stroke Instructors world wide and in more than 15 countries. Several of which have started businesses of their own revolving around One Stroke painting. Donna has made more than 100 books and videos and has her own show on PBS and soon to be WHDO as well as appearing regularly on Home Shopping Network.

8 x 8" Scrapbook Paper
1” Foam Brush

Instructions

  1. Basecoat Canvas Country Twill. Let dry.

  2. Following instructions on Mod Podge label decoupage paper to canvas. Let dry.

  3. Sponge Coffee Latte around edge of canvas and paper. Let dry.

  4. Transfer pattern if desired.

  5. Follow general instructions for painting a rose, using Vintage White, Seashell Pink, Parisian Pink.

  6. Paint basic One Stroke leaves around the rose.  Refer to Leaf Strokes Worksheet(1011BWKSHT),using Green Forest, Classic Green, Italian Sage and Basil Green to paint leaves.  Begin on the chisel edge of the brush, touch apply pressure, pull and lift back to a chisel edge at the tip of the leaf.

  7. Load the # 16 flat brush with Floating Medium add a touch of Burnt Umber to one corner. Using the flat side of the brush and keeping the Burnt Umber against the edge that is being shaded, paint shading around flower and leaves.


General Rose Instructions:

  1. Double or triple load your brush. Make one shell-shaped petal of the rose at a time. Start with the lighter colors to the outside.

  2. Wiggle and pull the brush as you pivot the brush into a curve. You will have a slightly scalloped outer edge.

  3. End the stroke on the chisel edge to complete the first petal.

  4. Make some guideline dots in a circle to help you determine the positioning of the five outer petals. Overlap each petal onto the previous one.

  5. Paint the five shell-shaped petals to complete the outer skirt of the rose.


  6. To begin painting the inner row of petals, touch the brush at the right of the rose bud. Make another shell-shaped petal here.

Variation for center of open rose:
Flower Centers:
Paint large circle area in Green Forest. Double load scruffy brush with Yellow Light and Classic Green for rose center. Paint smaller circle in center of Basil Green. Use handle end of brush to make small dots of Yellow Light and Wicker White.
