Stackable wooden blocks
Sandpaper - 220 grit
Old toothbrush


PREPARE:

Sand wooden surfaces smooth. Wipe away dust. Base paint blocks with Midnight. Let dry. Trace and transfer patterns.

PAINT THE DESIGN

See the Snowman Technique Workshop and the Birdhouse Technique Workshop for information on brushes and colors use and techniques.


  1. Load scruffy brush with Wicker White. Pick up a small amount of Maple Syrup on ( one comer. Pounce snow along bottom.
  2. Double load scruffy brush with Wicker White + Butter Pecan. Pounce snowmen's bodies, working from bottom to top.
  3. Dot eyes, mouths, and buttons with licorice.
  4. Double load #6 flat with Napthol Crimson and School Bus Yellow .Paint noses on chisel edge of brush. Add details with Burnt Umber, using a #2 script liner.
  5. Double load a #6 flat with Wicker White and Burnt Umber. Paint branch arms.
  6. Double load a# 12 flat brush with Burnt Umber and Wicker White. Paint broomstick and birdhouse pole, using the chisel edge of the brush.
  7. Paint hats and caps. See Snowman Worksheets.
  8. Paint scarves. See Snowman Worksheets.
  9. Load the handle end of a #6 flat with Napthol Crimson. Make dots for hearts. Load brush with Napthol Crimson. Connect dots to make hearts. Add stitch marks, using photo as a guide for colors and placement
  10. Paint birdhouses. See Birdhouse Worksheet
  11. Double load #12 flat with Napthol Crimson and Berry Wine. Paint bird's head, then body, then wings and tail feathers with Berry Wine on outer edge. Dot eye with Wicker White. Outline eye with licorice. Paint beak with School Bus Yellow.
  12. Double load #12 flat brush with Yellow Ochre and Burnt Umber. Basecoat broom straw. Highlight straw, using chisel edge of the brush, with Burnt Umber and Hauser Green Medium. Load script liner with inky Burnt Umber. Paint stitching on broom. Let dry.

FINISH:

  1. Using old toothbrush, spatter all sides with inky Wicker White. Let dry.
  2. Spray with two to three coats Matte Sealer. Let dry between coats.
