Surface Preparation:
1. Set Wicker White and a small amount of Burnt Umber onto the palette.

2. Double load the 3/4" Flat Brush with Wicker White and a small amount of Burnt Umber. Using a “slip/slap” type stroke, paint the oval canvas background. Some of strokes will be lighter than others. NOTE: Keep your strokes uneven as you cover the canvas.

3. Let the background dry.

Painting Instructions:
1. Use a pencil to lightly draw a large pumpkin shape in the center of the oval canvas. Lightly pencil the words “Harvest Time” in an arc around the pumpkin.

2. Pumpkin - Using a palette knife, scoop Orange Texture Paint and spread the paint on the area where the pumpkin has been drawn. Using long curved strokes, sculpt the sections of the pumpkin creating ridges for added dimension. NOTE: Be sure to leave an unpainted section at the top of the pumpkin where the stem will be painted when the Texture Paint dries.

3. Vine – Double load the No. 12 Flat Brush with Wicker White and Burnt Umber. Leading with Wicker White, paint a vine around the outer edge of the canvas using the chisel edge of the brush. Add multiple layers by criss-crossing the vine.

4. Leaves on the Vine – Double load the No. 12 Flat Brush with Thicket and Burnt Umber to paint the dark leaves on the vine around the outer edge of the canvas.
• Set the brush down at an angle, press, pull and lift to complete the leaf stroke.
• Paint smaller leaves using the same brush with Thicket and Wicker White.
• Add a series of tiny leaves where desired as filler using Thicket and Fresh Foliage.
• Attach the leaves to the vine painting a stem, using the chisel edge of the brush.

5. Shading Under the Pumpkin – Double load the 3/4" Flat Brush with Burnt Umber and a small amount of Wicker White. Blend on the palette to soften; paint a shadow under the pumpkin keeping the Burnt Umber side of the brush closest to the pumpkin.

6. Vine and Leaves under the Pumpkin –
• Vine - Double load the No. 12 Flat Brush with Burnt Umber and Wicker White; paint the vine under the pumpkin using the chisel edge of the brush.
• Leaves - Double load the No. 12 Flat Brush with Thicket and Wicker White. Blend on the palette and load a small amount of Burnt Umber to the Thicket side of the brush. Paint leaves to the vine; add some leaves “peeking” out from the bottom of the pumpkin. Attach the leaves to the vine with a stem using the chisel edge of the brush.

7. Shading the Pumpkin – Dip the No. 12 Flat Brush in water; blot on paper towel to remove excess moisture and side load the brush with Burnt Umber. Blend on the palette to soften. Add a touch of Thicket to the Burnt Umber side of the brush. Keeping the dark paint edge to the outside edge, float color to each section of the pumpkin to add shading.

8. Stem – Double load the 3/4" Flat Brush with Thicket and Wicker White. Add a small amount of Burnt Umber to the Thicket side of the brush; paint the stem at the top of the pumpkin. Keep Wicker White to the top edge of the brush.

9. Large Leaf – Paint the large leaf at the top of the pumpkin and at the bottom of the pumpkin using the 3/4" Flat Brush. Paint the bottom half of the leaf by double loading the brush with Burnt Umber and Thicket. Paint each section of the leaf by creating a series of “C” strokes. Paint the top portion by double loading the brush with Thicket and Wicker White. Add a vein on the chisel edge of the brush to attach the leaves.

10. Lettering – Thin Thicket paint to an inky consistency with water and load the No. 2 Script Liner Brush; paint the words “Harvest Time”. Be sure to keep the tip handle of the brush pointed straight up when painting the words.

Finishing Touches:
1. Don’t forget to sign your name in the color desired with thinned paint on the No. 2 Script Liner Brush.
