Large (16 x 20) canvas |
 |
Small (9 x 12) canvases |

1. Lay the smaller canvas on top of the larger canvas and mark for placement. 2. Paint the background of the larger canvas first, then glue the smaller canvas to the larger canvas and paint its background. Be sure to blend the backgrounds together. 3. BACKGROUND: Use the following color combinations when creating the backgrounds: SKY: Lavender/Wicker White; HORIZON: Ultramarine Blue/Wicker White/Aqua; GRASSY AREA: Forest Moss/Yellow Citron/Baby Pink/Sunflower/Butter Pecan/Yellow Citron. 4. Use the flocked (white) Texture Tool head to paint the backgrounds, using a crisscross motion. Avoid over-blending the colors. 5. For the grassy area, apply extra Fresh Foliage to the lower left corner, with a touch of Butter Pecan and Yellow Citron. Allow all backgrounds to dry to the touch. 6. SAILBOATS: Double-load the 1" flat brush with Yellow Ochre and Wicker White. Using the flat side of the brush, paint the bottom of the boats. Occasionally pick up Burnt Sienna and Sunflower to add more definition and to help differentiate the boats. 7. Using the same brush and colors, paint the masts using the chisel edge of the brush. 8. Load the 1" flat brush with Wicker White. Using the flat side of the brush, paint the sails. Pick up a touch of Lavender and Butter Pecan; stroke over the sails to add color and create the folds. Use the chisel edge of the brush to pull ropes on the sailboat in the foreground. 9. Use the #10 flat brush, and the same colors and techniques above to paint the smaller boat on the larger canvas. 10. FOREGROUND: STEMS AND GRASS: Double load the 1" flat brush with Fresh Foliage and Yellow Citron. Using the chisel edge and heavy pressure, pull the grass blades up from the bottom. Use heavy pressure to make the blades wide and use less pressure to make the blades thin. 11. FOREGROUND FLOWERS: Double load the #16 flat brush with Magenta and Baby Pink. Using the flat side of the brush, paint the flowers. 12. Double load the #16 flat brush with Sunflower and Butter Pecan. Dabbing lightly on the chisel edge, add centers to the flowers. Occasionally pick up a touch of Wicker White to highlight.
