Basecoat rooster using short overlapping strokes with the brush turned vertical. At this point you are not using a lot of paint.
Head - Engine Red
Eye - 1/2 moon with Wicker White, Pupil – dot of Licorice
Beak – Yellow Ochre
Body – Raw Sienna
Chest – Wicker White + a dot of Raw Sienna
Front Leg – Wicker White + a dot of Raw Sienna, stripe with Burnt Umber
Back Leg – Wicker White + 2 dots of Raw Sienna to create a darker shade, then stripe with Burnt Umber.
Feathers – Using #10 flat, stroke in feathers first using Engine Red, then stroke a few Autumn Leaves, and then stroke a few Ultramarine Blue feathers. Don’t put all of the feathers in at this time, as you will layer thicker ones when putting in the final details.
Let rooster dry for 10 minutes.
Now when painting the rooster load your brush heavy with paint.
Head – Using the #1 flat and a touch of Burnt Umber shade at the top of his head just under his comb. Highlight his comb with Autumn Leaves.
Eye – Using #1 liner, shade around his eye with a touch of Burnt Umber.
Beak – Shade at the back part and lower part of his beak with a touch of Burnt Umber. Highlight the top of his beak with a mixture of Yellow Ochre + Wicker White.
Body – Coming down the body with Yellow Ochre. Highlight with a brush mix of Yellow Ochre + Wicker White.
Chest – Right under the face, stroke with a mixture of Wicker White + a dot of Raw Sienna. Wipe brush light with a paper towel and load with Wicker White and finish the chest.
Bottom of Body – continue with Yellow Ochre and highlight with a brush mix of Yellow Ochre + Wicker White.
Front Leg – Where the front leg begins paint lighter with mixture of Yellow Ochre + Wicker White.
Back Leg – Should be painted the same just in a darker shade.
Feathers – Using more paint, stroke feathers with Engine Red, a few Autumn Leaves, then a few Ultramarine Blue.
Ground – Using the fan brush, load brush with Raw Sienna. Test on a separate part of your palette to off load some of the paint. Paint under the rooster’s legs as to cover his feet. Then brush mix a little Yellow Ochre and Wicker White and create a grassy look. Using the #10 flat, lightly pull some horizontal strokes to lay the grass down.
Finishing the pitcher - Using a small piece of sea sponge, lightly sponge Yellow Ochre around the neck and the center part of the handle. With the #10 flat, lightly pat Ultramarine Blue around the top, middle, bottom and handle rims.FolkArt® High Definition™ (HD) Acrylic Paints combine high pigmentation with a thick paint formula that dries with raised definition.
