Three Santa wood cutouts from 1/4" wood



Preparation
  1. Lightly sand wood and wipe off surfaces.
  2. Transfer patterns to wood.
Paint the Design
  1. Basecoat all hats with Engine Red.
  2. Striped hat and hat with pompon: Shade with Berry Wine.
  3. Stripes on hat: Paint with Wicker White, using the #6 flat brush. Then shade further with Floating Medium and Burnt Umber.
  4. Plaid hat: Paint wide stripes with Berry Wine, using the #6 flat brush. Paint light green narrow stripes with inky Grass Green and dark green narrow stripes with inkey Green Forest, using the #2 script liner.
  5. Fur(including pompon on solid hat): Basecoat with Wicker White. Let dry. Load the small scruffy brush with Wicker White and a touch of Butter Pecan and pounce on fur hat. For Santa with a pompon hat, there is also a touch of Burnt Umber in the fur on his hat.
Faces:
  1. Basecoat with Skintone. Let dry.
  2. Paint cheeks and noses with Floating Medium and a touch of Engine Red.
  3. Basecoat eyes with Licorice. When dry, highlight with Wicker White. Paint eye detail with inky Burnt Umber, using script liner.
  4. Paint eyebrows with Wicker White. Santa with striped hat has a touch of Licorice added for the eyebrows.
Beards & Mustaches:
  1. Basecoat beards with Wicker White. Let dry.
  2. Load the #12 flat brush with Wicker White and a touch of Butter Pecan. On chisel edge, and leading with Wicker White, paint the beard and mustache details on the long beard Santas.
  3. On the Santa with the pompon hat, pounce beard with Wicker White and a little Butter Pecan on the small of the scruffy brush. Paint his mustache like the others.
Holly:
  1. Paint holly leaves with Grass Green and Green Forest double loaded on the #6 flat brush. Turn the Grass Green to the outer edge.
Finish
When dry, finish with two or three coats of sealer.
