I have always loved to draw and paint but I didn't really throw myself into it until after I had my first son.  I wanted to be a stay at home mom and at the same time be able to decorate the new home we had just purchased. I taught myself how to use power tools and began to build furniture which I would paint and sometimes sell.  What was once a hobby became a new part-time career which I feel so blessed to be able to do.

Other Supplies
Unfinished wood 4-peg coatrack: 3½” x 23”
¾” plywood cut 12” x 24”
¼” particle-board cut 7-1/4” wide x 19-1/2” long
1 sheet scrapbook paper – gray slate pattern
4 sheets scrapbook paper – terra cotta pattern
Black and white photocopy of guitar enlarged to 7” x 19”
15 large head bolts (measuring ½” across)
12 nuts to fit bolts
12 small washers to fit bolts
2 very large washers to fit bolts
30 Phillips-head screws (measuring ¼” across)
Phillips-head screwdriver (electric helpful)
Large saw-tooth picture hanger with screws
Craft knife
Drill
Ruler
Pencil
Sponge brush

Instructions

  1. Paint sides and back of ¾” plywood with Light Red Oxide. Let dry.
  2. Tear large pieces of the terra-cotta scrapbook papers and glue them onto the plywood front with Mod Podge Gloss, overlapping the pieces as shown. Note: To remove air bubbles and make the paper lay flat always rub paper with fingers while glue is wet, pressing from the center out towards the edges. Let dry.
  3. Use craft knife to trim paper even with edges of the plywood.
  4. Paint a coat of Mod Podge Gloss over entire board. Set aside to dry.
  5. Remove pegs from coatrack. Paint entire coatrack and pegs with Licorice. Let dry. Dry-brush over the Licorice with Mod Podge Silver Shimmer to give a gunmetal effect..
  6. Cut gray slate scrapbook paper to fit top surface of coatrack. Glue on with Mod Podge Gloss. Measure and mark where the screws will go on the coat-rack. Refer to photo. Screw into place. Note: You’ll need to drill holes for the bolts to sit down in. Glue into holes with Mod Podge.
  7. Cut the 19-1/2” length of particle-board into 3 pieces that are 6-1/2” wide. Cut guitar picture in 3 pieces to fit.
  8. Glue guitar pieces onto particleboard sections using Mod Podge Gloss. Let dry. Paint an even coat of Mod Podge Gloss over top of 3 sections to seal and protect. Let dry completely.
  9. Drill holes in each of the 4 corners of the sections of guitar picture. Insert bolt through small washer, then through hole in corner, then tighten nut on back. Repeat for all corners.
  10. Glue coatrack at bottom of board using Mod Podge Gloss. Put Mod Podge Gloss on each bolt and set into place on board.
  11. Allow project to dry flat overnight.
  12. Re-install pegs of coat-rack. Screw on the saw-tooth hanger on back.
