Decorative Painting
A native Floridian and mother of seven and grandmother of eight, Donna Dewberry has been involved with arts and crafts for more than 25 years.
Donna Dewberry began decorative painting, she says, because she wanted to, not necessarily because she had talent. She started with what she calls "dot," which uses the end of the brush handle, but she eventually got up the courage to use the bristle end of the brush. After many evenings at her dining room table teaching herself to paint, Donna Dewberry developed FolkArt® One Stroke™, a technique for stress-free, stroke-by-stroke decorative painting. One Stroke on loading the brush rather than the theory of light and dark, shading and highlighting.
“It's a technique for the masses,” says Donna.
“One Stroke teaches how to paint flowers which are a popular subject and the most difficult to paint. With One Stroke, creating beautiful flowers is all a matter of how you load the brush."
With her One Stroke™ Teacher Certification Program, Donna Dewberry has certified more than 6,000 painters as One Stroke Certified Instructors(OSCIs). These teachers live all over the world, and consistently offer classes for new and experienced One Stroke™ students. Not only is Donna in high demand as a teacher, but also as an interior designer, craft manufacturer and she also makes regular appearances on television networks in America and Canada! She is also a columnist in several arts and crafts publications.
Donna Dewberry’s love of painting has expanded from traditional decorative to painting on glass and ceramics with FolkArt® Enamels™ to outdoor surfaces with FolkArt® Outdoor and on fabric and textiles with FolkArt® Fabric.
As her designs become more and more popular, Donna's One Stroke art style has been adapted to Cross stitch, Needlework, Rubber stamps, wall stencils- even fabrics. Donna’s licensed home textile products have also found their way into Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, JC Penny, JoAnn’s, Michael’s, and more!
Given Donna’s major success, she is still devoted to her family. Donna’s husband works with her, and their seven children and eight grandchildren have also played key roles in her success by helping out with drawing, painting, distribution and even warehouse work!
