How to Create the Distressed Look using FolkArt Home Decor Chalk with Donna Dewberry

How to Create the Distressed Look using FolkArt Home Decor Chalk with Donna Dewberry

Refinishing, refurbishing, repurposing .... all three words describe the latest in DIY home decor crafting!  And the product at the top of the trend is FolkArt Home Decor Chalk!  It's perfect for furniture such as tables, chairs, book shelves, armoires, beds, and even built-in cabinets.  FolkArt Home Decor Chalk is also the go-to product for revamping home decor accessory items such as lamps, frames, and organizational boxes!

Today I am pleased to share with you an instructional, how-to video Plaid created along with Donna Dewberry!  This video, "FolkArt Home Decor Chalk:  How to Create a Distressed Finish" is the first video in a series of eight instructing a variety of paint and waxing techniques.

If you've ever wanted to try painting and distressing an old, tired piece of furniture or a thrift store find, however, you were a little timid about trying something new, after watching this video, you'll be ready to conquer your project with confidence!

Achieve a distressed look by painting one or more colors of paint in separate layers and then remove the top layer in time-worn areas such as chair rungs and arms, furniture edges and around knobs or drawer pulls to expose the color beneath.  This distressed look evokes a warm charming, vintage, and time-worn look which is a very desirable DIY trend.

In this video as you watch Donna, you will learn about two different "distressing" techniques:  dry distressing and wet distressing. The beauty of videos is the feeling that Donna is right there in your room talking to you while showing you how to take a raw wood frame and create a beautiful home decor piece you would proudly display in your home!

Enjoy watching FolkArt Home Decor Chalk:  How to Create a Distressed Finish and then I invite you to review a few of my favorite FolkArt Home Decor Chalk blog posts to learn a little more.

The table below was created by Donna using two favorite colors:  Spanish Moss and Glacier and sealed with Clear Wax.

The outdated, ornate frame was given a new lift by yours truly using Java, Imperial, Clear Wax and then completed with Antiquing Wax.  Check it out!

These two adorable small chests were featured as our company Lunch n Learn event project last November.  You won't want to miss these two color combinations!

Of course, there are many more creative projects completed using FolkArt Home Decor Chalk, I invite you to visit Plaidonline.com for project inspiration and product information!  And as Donna would say, "Now, go out there and have fun!"
