Gallery Glass Horizontal Application - Step 4

Glass Painting

Leading strips are used to connect design elements as well as to create borders or other leading lines within the overall window mural. Use Red-Lead, or prepare and dry strips of Liquid Leading before applying to a vertical surface.

Please note: Liquid Leading can't be squeezed directly onto a vertical surface.

  1. Mark any connecting lines needed onto your project surface (see design photos for suggestions), using a ruler and a china marker.

  2. Determine the number of leading strips you need to make (or how much Redi-Lead you need.) Measure and add together the lengths of all the connecting lines in the pattern. Multiply the total by the number of times the pattern will be repeated on your window.

  3. If you are using Liquid Leading to make leading strips:
    • Secure a piece of lined notebook paper under a Leading Blank. Make as many blanks as you need for the project.
    • Squeeze lines of leading (1/8" to 3/16" in diameter) on the Leading Blank using the notebook paper lines as guides. Let leading cure thoroughly - at least 72 hours - until the strips peel up cleanly.
