Jan Wetstone Visits Plaid!

Decoupage

Untitled Document

It was a special and eventful day for Jan Wetstone Inventor of Mod Podge when she visited Plaid corporate offices recently, where she was honored with a meet and greet reception, Plaid President Mike McCooey presented Jan the coveted Plaid diamond and ruby pin, typically awarded to employees with 20 year of service to the company.

Jan shared memories of Mod Podge's early days when she was a one-woman show--manufacturing, bottling, selling and demonstrating the fabled product! She happily answered questions from guests, including queries about the one-of-a-kind VW Beetle. She used bed sheets to cover the Bug. Jan also used the opportunity to dispute a story supposedly told by Rose O'Donnell: "The car belonged to my daughter's (then) boyfriend. I was not a hippie selling Mod Podge from my car," she clarified.

Several of Jan's friends and family members enjoyed the day's festivities, admiring the colorful room that was decorated corner-to-corner with Mod Podge projects. "It's a shrine to Grandma!" noted Jan's granddaughter.

Jan was not only touched but deeply humbled by the out pouring of kindness of Plaid employees. Who would have thought that a simple invention with a name derived from the term “Modern Decoupage” would carry on such a life of its own and impact crafters all over the world?
