Hands-On Learning with Susan Goans
Home Decorating
If
you've often admired the beautiful faux finishes that are
so popular in today's magazines, but have never thought you
could learn to create them yourself, think again!
Presenting Artistic
Adventures - a hands-on home design apprenticeship
program now in its second year. It offers do-it-yourself decorators
the chance to actually help design a real home while
learning more about faux finishing, stenciling, and more.
Developed by Susan Kay Goans (Driggers), a renowned
home decorating artist and Plaid author and designer who has
appeared on the Christopher Lowell Show, Kitty Bartholomew,
and other home decorating programs, the curriculum offers
great potential for all kinds of home decorators. Now in its
second year, Artistic Adventures and its apprentices have
been featured in Country Living and Romantic Homes magazines,
and a portion of the artistry from the 2001 project was highlighted
on HGTV.
Here's how it works:
This year's classes will take place at Stonebrooke
Estate in Atlanta, GA. For ten weeks (from March 17 through
June 13, 2003) Stonebrooke will serve as the "blank canvas"
for this fantastic learning experience where students themselves
will take part in transforming the interior of this newly
built home into works of art.
Students can choose from a variety of week-long
classes taught by Susan, as well as other home decorating
experts. Classes include:
- Decorative Painting & Faux Finishing
- Floor Cloths
- Fine Furniture Upholstery
- Fresco Mural Painting
- Professional Drapery
- Fine Art Mural Painting
- Woodcarving
- Garden Artistry
Classes are held Monday through Friday, and each student
will enjoy a daily lunch in the estate's courtyard. There
is even a one-day Creative Business Seminar designed to teach
designers how to start their own design business.
This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for do-it-yourself designers.
It would be a great vacation for a group of friends or anyone
who's interested in expanding their design skills, while learning
from a team of renowned professionals.
