Dianne Hook
Rubber Stamping & Card Making
After
just five years working as a contract artist for a variety
of companies, Dianne Hook decided to branch out on her own.
In 1990, recognizing a growing need in the hobby/craft world,
she began DJ Inkers, a firm specializing in computer clip
art.
At a time when
only a handful of clip art books were available, Dianne produced
best-selling cut & copy books, which she tailored for holidays
and other themes throughout the year. She sold them mainly
in local boutiques and gift shops near her Utah home. The
response was overwhelming and DJ Inkers was up and running.
Fast-forward fifteen
years and now Dianne is an award-winning artist and entrepreneur
who is internationally sought after as much for her speaking
skills as for her artistic ones. At times it's hard to believe,
even for Dianne.
"Having time to
produce work I'm proud to present is a result of a lot of
hard work and a dream come true," she says.
Hook's designs
were so inspiring to Plaid that we turned them into fanciful
clear stamps, perfect for card making and scrapbooks. Her
whimsical alphabet designs are also featured in our cross-stitch
picture kits.
The
proud mother of four daughters and one son, Hook receives
most of the inspiration for her characters and other drawings
from her children.
"Being blessed
with five beautiful children provides me with tons of inspiration
(and exasperation!) from sunup to sundown," she says.
All of her children
love art and whenever Dianne needs an idea or two, they never
fail to deliver. "Just an afternoon of sitting around the
table is enough inspiration for many projects," she says.
In 1999, DJ Inkers
moved to its current location in Coalville, Utah. The large
historic home was in desperate need of repairs, inside and
out, but its emotional texture felt right.
"The home was filled
with the right stories, feelings and attributes," she says.
The renovation
was extensive and time-consuming but well worth it.
Dianne says, "Character,
color, history and smiles are all important parts of the DJ
Inkers office we have now."
